Editor's Pick

Empathy, technique and intuition are abundant ingredients with this talented singer, songwriter and pianist from Minneapolis. Listening to her songs leads to obvious comparisons with Carole King, Alicia Keys and Tori Amos, but there's a sense of research and adventure that stops them getting confused anymore: she definitely has her own style and sound.
When you hear things such "What The Autumn Brings" or “So Why” it almost soars...

"How Do You Know", among many, finely reveals Alison Scott's brilliant artistic qualities and is surely one of the most beautiful pieces in her discography. The emotional level of the track rises like a tide, in an inner, almost unconscious journey into human feelings: not to mention the creative contribution of Kevin Bowe’s magic lead guitar, a subtle and intelligent presence that fits harmoniously in the music flow.
Alison Scott is without doubt one of the most authentic soulful voices in the country and proudly represents the heart of America.

Biography

Alison Scott is the strongest new voice to come out
of the Minneapolis music scene in many years; her
soulful, organic sound completely ignores the ‘rules
of cool’ that limit so much of today’s music. Working with platinum and Grammy-winning guitarist Kevin Bowe (Paul Westerberg, Etta James, Jonny Lang), drummer Peter Anderson (Polara, Honeydogs) and bassist Steve Price (Rex Daisy) the band sold out the Dakota the last six times they have been there. They are also headlining on weekends at the Fine Line, The Varsity Theater, The Guthrie Theater and other venues as well as performing at benefits, corporate functions, and festivals opening for National artists like Chris Isaak, Marc Cohn, Boz Scaggs, and Nanci Griffith. Cities 97 has jumped right on board, giving both of her releases regular airplay as well as live-in-studio gigs. Alison’s new EP “Hiding Under The Covers” was listed by the St. Paul Pioneer Press as one of the year’s 10 best!

Press Quotes:
LA Based magazine, SingerUniverse- “August 2009 Singer of the Month”
Dale Kawashima (SingerUniverse.com)- “Soulful ballads are an excellent showcase for
Scott’s strong, passionate, and earthy vocals.”
Chris Roberts (MN Public Radio) “a soaring, agile voice”
Erik Stromstad (Varsity Theater) “I got chills the first time I saw her”
Brian Turner (Cities 97) “Don’t forget us when you’re a big star, which you will soon be”
John Ziegler (Duluth Tribune) “Somewhere between Carole King and Alicia Keys... a
force to be reckoned with”
Pat O’Brien (City Pages) “Alison’s songs are deceptively damaged and clever; she’s not
even remotely interested in pleasing the so-called hipsters”.
Ross Raihala (St. Paul Pioneer Press) “like an outtake from Dusty in Memphis, pure jaw
dropping soul, steely conviction that’s hard to deny”
